A Nigerian man has allegedly been caught attempting a fake bank transfer after ordering a phone on a pay-on-delivery basis, intending to surprise his partner on International Girlfriend Day.
According to reports circulating on social media, the man contacted an online vendor and placed an order for a high-end smartphone, asking that it be delivered to his location. However, upon the arrival of the delivery agent, he allegedly attempted to deceive the dispatch rider by showing a falsified bank transfer notification, giving the impression that payment had been completed.
In a video that has since gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), the man was seen being confronted and publicly shamed by bystanders. The delivery agent, visibly upset, challenged him for allegedly attempting to defraud him. One voice in the background could be heard saying, “You get mind you dey order delivery, when dispatch come you dey put dispatch for debt. You order for original phone.”
The video has generated massive reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing disappointment, disbelief, and sometimes humor over the man's actions. A number of social media users questioned his priorities, criticizing him for risking his reputation and freedom just to impress a girlfriend on a trending romantic occasion.
As discussions continue, many pointed out that such acts of deceit not only endanger trust in e-commerce but also reflect the extreme pressures some individuals feel to appear successful or generous, particularly in relationships.
