A Nigerian man has taken to social media to raise a disturbing allegation against the police, claiming they abducted his younger brother in Abuja, extorted a large sum of money from him, and even threatened to kill his sibling if their demands were not met.
The shocking account was shared by social media user @Deyoppressed via a detailed thread on X, formerly known as Twitter. The post has since gone viral, sparking outrage and renewed calls for police reform across Nigeria.
According to the user, his younger brother, a student, was allegedly taken by members of the Nigerian Police directly from his school premises. The officers reportedly refused to disclose their identities or their location when contacted.
He further claimed that the officers initially demanded a ransom of ₦2 million for the release of his brother, threatening to kill him or frame him for serious crimes like drug trafficking and gun-running if the ransom wasn’t paid.
After pleading and explaining that he could not raise such an amount, the officers allegedly agreed to lower the demand to ₦300,000. The payment, according to the victim’s brother, was collected through a roadside POS machine — a method often flagged in previous extortion complaints against rogue officers.
In his own words, the post reads: “Nigerian Police are kidnappers and criminals in uniform. Abducted my kid bro today from his school and collected 300k and dump him in the middle of nowhere in Abuja. @PoliceNG @Princemoye1 call your people to other. They collected such money from a student even when they found Nothing on his phone.”
He continued with more damning claims: “They refused to disclose their location even when I was asking them on the phone when they reached out to me. I told them to take him to any of their stations and give me the location, they refused.”
“They threatened to kill him and dump his body by the roadside or frame him for drugs and gun-running. The @PoliceNG is a crime institution, they are not saving lives and properties, they extort from people and if you can’t afford to pay, they will threaten to kill you.”
“They even demanded 2 million naira and when they saw that I could not raise such amount, they lowered it to 300k and collected it through roadside POS machine. @Princemoye1 the police is never our friend, they are criminals, they are just official kidnappers in uniform and their souls are as black as their uniform. When you see a police at checkpoint, you should first be scared for your safety.”
He further added: “This was this morning. In their words, it’s either I comply or I bury my brother. I was also reminded that I know they can frame him and there is nothing I can do about it. They told me I can go anywhere and they don’t care. They refused to take him to any station.”
The post quickly gained attention and has been widely shared, with hundreds of Nigerians expressing anger and disappointment at the alleged misconduct. Many have tagged the Nigerian Police Force and demanded swift accountability and justice.
