Veteran journalist, renowned publisher, and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has officially announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing a complete hijack of the party by forces opposed to democratic values.
The media mogul and founder of Ovation International conveyed his decision in a formal resignation letter dated July 17, 2025. The letter was addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward 4, located in Ihievbe, within the Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.
In the heartfelt communication, Momodu extended his deep gratitude to the PDP leadership at the grassroots level, acknowledging their unwavering support and loyalty throughout his time with the party. He emphasized that the PDP, once a beacon of democratic engagement, has now been overtaken by individuals and interests that no longer reflect its founding ideals.
According to Momodu:
“My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
This bold move signals a significant political shift in Edo State and beyond, especially as Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 general elections. Momodu’s defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) not only reflects his personal stance but also mirrors the sentiments of many PDP loyalists who have become disillusioned with the current direction of the party.
Political analysts suggest that Momodu’s entry into the ADC may further energize the coalition, which is rapidly gaining ground among reform-minded politicians and citizens seeking an alternative to the status quo. His influence in media, politics, and youth engagement is likely to boost the ADC’s visibility and credibility on a national scale.
As the 2027 elections approach, all eyes will be on how this high-profile defection reshapes alliances and momentum across Nigeria’s political landscape.[/p>
