It will be recalled that the Super Falcons pulled off a dramatic comeback to defeat Morocco 3-2 in the final, clinching their record-extending 10th WAFCON title — a feat that further cemented their dominance in African women’s football history.

Following their historic win, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu publicly announced a package of rewards for the players and technical crew. Each player was promised $100,000 and a fully furnished three-bedroom apartment in the prestigious Renewed Hope Estate, Abuja, while the technical crew members were assured $50,000 each along with a three-bedroom apartment.

However, in a recent conversation on Chude Jideonwo’s popular podcast, Rasheedat Ajibade revealed that, months after the victory and the high-profile announcement, none of the promises have been fulfilled. She stated that the players are yet to receive the $100,000 cash reward, the housing benefit, or any part of the pledged incentives.

We have not received our money, but hopefully, it will be paid. They have not paid. All the promises, we have not received anything,” she said candidly during the interview.

Ajibade further noted that, when the government eventually fulfills the pledges, the development will be made public. Her comments have since stirred fresh conversations online about the recurring delays in rewarding Nigerian athletes despite their achievements on the international stage.
