Manchester United Begin Talks with Wilfred Ndidi

Manchester United have reportedly begun personal discussions with Nigerian midfield anchor Wilfred Ndidi as they aim to reinforce their squad ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 Premier League season. The Red Devils appear to be positioning themselves as serious contenders for the player’s signature.

Ndidi, who currently plays for Leicester City, is widely expected to depart the club following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season. With multiple suitors monitoring his situation, Manchester United have emerged as front-runners in the race, according to sources from soccernet.

At 28 years of age, Ndidi brings a wealth of Premier League experience. Over the years, he has established himself as one of the most reliable defensive midfielders in England, playing a crucial role in Leicester’s historic FA Cup triumph, their Community Shield win, and their recent promotion campaign which secured the EFL Championship title.

As reported by Caught Offside, the Nigerian international is available for a relatively modest fee of £9 million, thanks to a relegation clause embedded in his contract. This clause significantly increases his appeal to top-flight clubs looking for value in the transfer market.

Manchester United are said to be exploring this opportunity as part of their strategic rebuild under new manager Ruben Amorim. Despite having already signed Manuel Ugarte, the Uruguayan midfielder has yet to fully adapt to the intensity and pace of English football, leaving United in need of additional depth and stability in the center of the park.

Wilfred Ndidi, known for his ball-winning ability, tactical awareness, and versatility, fits the profile of a low-cost, high-impact option. His signing would offer Amorim much-needed flexibility in midfield while reinforcing the squad with proven experience.

Interest in Ndidi isn’t limited to England alone. Several clubs from Germany, Italy, and Spain have also expressed a desire to sign the midfielder, but reports suggest that Ndidi sees Manchester United as a unique opportunity to return to top-level European football and challenge for major honors once again.

If negotiations conclude successfully, Ndidi would become only the second Nigerian to represent Manchester United in the club’s history—following Odion Ighalo, who made headlines with his loan spell at Old Trafford in 2020.
