Atalanta threaten sanction over Lookman’s absence

Ademola Lookman

Atalanta have formally vowed to impose disciplinary action on their forward Ademola Lookman after he failed to attend training sessions for five consecutive days without obtaining official permission from the club.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A club has so far refrained from implementing drastic sanctions, likely due to the ongoing transfer speculation linking Lookman to Inter Milan, who are reportedly preparing a fresh bid to sign the Nigerian international.

Despite his unexplained absence from training, Lookman remains under contract with Atalanta and has been officially summoned back to the club’s training sessions. The player is currently recovering from a muscle injury under a prescribed rehabilitation program, although it remains unclear whether he is receiving his treatment at the club’s facilities or privately.

The club has so far chosen not to make any public accusations regarding Lookman’s absence. However, reliable sources within the club indicate that a substantial financial penalty is being prepared. This is expected to include a significant fine as well as deductions from his salary corresponding to the days he missed training, according to All Nigeria Soccer.

These disciplinary measures will be officially formalized and communicated at the end of August during the club’s monthly financial review meeting.

The management at the Bergamo-based outfit view Lookman’s prolonged absence as a clear breach of his professional obligations and have stressed that this matter will not be overlooked or taken lightly going forward.
