The Adamawa State Government has honoured Super Falcons coach, Justine Madugu, in recognition of his outstanding role in leading Nigeria’s national women’s football team to a historic 10th victory at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Coach Madugu, a native of Numan Local Government Area in Adamawa State, was celebrated in a grand ceremony held at the Government House in Yola on Friday, August 1. During the event, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri announced a generous reward of a fully furnished three-bedroom bungalow and a cash gift of ₦50 million to honour the coach’s contribution to national sports development and to celebrate his leadership and excellence on the continental stage.

“This victory is a testament to the strength, unity, and talent of our people. Coach Madugu has shown that excellence can come from any part of Nigeria. His leadership has elevated our state on the international stage,” Governor Fintiri said.
In his acceptance speech, Coach Madugu expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Adamawa State Government, the Governor, and the people of the state for the recognition and generous support. He described the gesture as both humbling and motivating, noting that the honour would remain one of the most memorable moments of his coaching career.
“I’m overwhelmed by what is happening today. I thank God and the government of Adamawa State for this recognition,” he stated.
Madugu further reflected on the significance of his appointment as a coach from the northern region of the country, saying, “When I took up this role, I saw it as a challenge to prove that northerners, too, can lead at the highest levels. It was a personal mission to leave a legacy that will inspire respect for our state.”
The event was attended by top government officials, sports enthusiasts, and community leaders who applauded the governor’s initiative and celebrated Madugu’s accomplishments. It marked a moment of unity and pride for Adamawa, reinforcing the state’s commitment to rewarding excellence and promoting sports development.
