Zenith Bank has generously donated ₦200 million to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, in recognition of their historic achievements on the African basketball scene.
This remarkable contribution comes shortly after D’Tigress clinched their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title, solidifying their position as the most dominant women’s basketball team on the continent.

During a celebratory reception held in Abuja, Dame Adaora Umeoji, the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, presented the financial reward to the team in a symbolic gesture of appreciation and encouragement.
According to Umeoji, each player on the D’Tigress squad would receive ₦10 million from the total donation, while the technical crew and support staff would share the remaining balance. The bank emphasized that this gesture is not only to reward the athletes but to inspire excellence and determination in future generations.
Zenith Bank’s donation adds to the growing list of commendations and incentives following the team’s historic feat. Earlier, President Bola Tinubu had announced his own generous package for the team.
The presidential reward included $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for each member of the coaching and technical crew, and the allocation of brand-new flats for all team members and staff at the Renewed Hope Estate.
In further recognition of their incredible achievement, President Tinubu also conferred on the players and members of the technical crew the prestigious national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). This marks one of the highest national commendations awarded to citizens for outstanding contributions in their fields.
The continued recognition and support from both private and public sectors are seen as major boosts for women’s sports development in Nigeria. D’Tigress' success story continues to inspire a new generation of athletes and highlight the importance of investment in female sports.[/p>
