An elderly Nigerian vendor has been left devastated and in tears after a shocking midnight burglary at her shop, where thieves made away with a total of 49 kegs of oil — specifically 44 kegs of palm oil and 5 kegs of groundnut oil — worth millions of naira.
The heartbreaking incident was made public via a video posted on TikTok by user @beaofoodhub, who revealed that the victim is her mother. According to her, her mother has spent years building her small oil business, only to suffer this devastating blow.
She explained that the thieves carried out the operation between Wednesday night and the early hours of Thursday morning. They first broke into a nearby tailor’s shop, then tore through the internal wall that connected to her mother’s store, gaining access to the valuable stock of oil.
“They burgled it between Wednesday and Thursday midnight,” she wrote in the caption. “They stole 44 kegs of palm oil and 5 kegs of groundnut oil. My mum cried like a baby.”
She further narrated how the intruders came in through a third street, broke through the gate of a local church, scaled the fence of an abandoned, overgrown compound, and then entered the tailor’s shop before breaching the wall to her mother’s store.
Once inside, they looted almost the entire inventory, carting away the oil kegs that represented her mother’s livelihood. The burglary was carefully executed, and it wasn’t until morning that the family realized the extent of the damage.
While inspecting the surrounding environment, the family managed to recover only 8 of the stolen kegs. She noted that the thief’s bag was found placed on the kegs, which served as a small clue in the ongoing investigation.
“Seeing my mum cry broke me,” she said, emotionally. “But I know God will restore her loss in double folds.” The incident has since been reported to the police, and the family remains hopeful that justice will be served.
The video quickly went viral and has since drawn a flood of emotional responses from social media users, many of whom expressed sympathy for the elderly woman while others condemned the rising insecurity affecting small business owners in the country.

Yesterday I got a call my mums shop was burgled . They burgled it on Wednesday /Thursday Midnight . They stole 44 kegs of palm oil , 5 kegs of groundnut oil . The thief entered through the 3rd street , he broke the gate of a church ,broke the wall of a compound that is empty and bushy ,broke into shop linked to the compound , from there he broke into my mums shop . While searching the environment we were able to see 8 kegs out of 49,000 kegs ,with his bag on the kegs . The thief made my mum cry like a Baby ,seeing my mum cried broke me, But I know GOD in heaven is watching and will return her loss in double folds . We have reported to the police 👮 I pray they are able to find the culprit
