A Nigerian father has raised serious allegations against a Benin hospital, claiming that the facility infected his 19-month-old baby with HIV following two separate blood transfusions administered at the hospital. The man insists that what was supposed to be life-saving treatment has instead left his family devastated and desperate for justice.
The disturbing claim surfaced in a TikTok video showing the father alongside documents he says were obtained from the hospital. In the video, he narrates in detail how events unfolded, providing dates, receipts, and medical records to back up his accusation.
According to the account, the ordeal began on February 6, 2025, when the child developed a dangerously high fever and was found to have critically low blood levels. Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors urgently recommended a blood transfusion. With no other option and in a race against time, the parents agreed to the procedure, purchasing a unit of blood from the hospital for ₦40,000.
However, the family’s nightmare deepened when they returned to the same hospital on May 3, 2025, after the child’s health deteriorated again. The doctors repeated their advice for another transfusion. This time, the child’s parents, identified as Praise Mumbo and his wife, offered to donate their own blood to ensure its safety. To their surprise, the hospital refused their offer, claiming there was no available medical personnel to screen their blood for transfusion compatibility and safety.
Instead, they were told to buy another unit of blood, which cost ₦35,000. They complied once again, trusting that the hospital would follow standard medical protocols.
Tragically, weeks later, the parents received heartbreaking news from a doctor at a government hospital: their son, Jeremiah, had tested positive for HIV. The father alleges that the infection could only have been contracted during the transfusions at Safe Bliss Medical Center, a private hospital in Benin City. He has since accused the facility of gross medical negligence and is seeking accountability for the incident.
He expressed shock that despite both parents testing negative for HIV, their child could have tested positive, adding fuel to his suspicion that the transfused blood had not been properly screened before administration.
As the story gained attention on social media, outrage erupted among Nigerians, with many demanding a thorough investigation and punishment for those responsible if the allegations prove true.
