The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, has publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Daura Emirate's preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election. The royal endorsement marks a significant show of support from one of the most influential traditional institutions in northern Nigeria.

The endorsement was made on Saturday during a condolence visit by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to the family of the late President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State. The First Lady led a high-profile delegation of distinguished women, including wives of top government officials such as leaders of the National Assembly, state governors, ministers, and service chiefs.

The group first visited the residence of Hajia Aisha Buhari, widow of the late President, to offer prayers for the repose of his soul and to express their heartfelt condolences. The delegation also visited the gravesite of the former president to pay their respects and hold a short prayer session in his memory.

Following the condolence visits, the First Lady and her delegation proceeded to the residence of Alhaji Mamman Daura, a respected elder statesman and uncle to the late Buhari. Alhaji Mamman expressed his gratitude for the visit and thanked the delegation for honoring the late president’s legacy.

Senator Tinubu later paid a formal visit to the Emir’s palace, where she was warmly received by the Emir and members of the traditional council. During the interaction, the Emir commended President Tinubu's ongoing leadership and commitment to national development. He assured the First Lady of the Daura Emirate’s unwavering support for her husband, stating that the Emirate would back Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The Emir praised the President for upholding the values of good governance and continuing the vision of late President Buhari, noting that the region had great confidence in his administration's ability to deliver meaningful change.

The Emir's endorsement is viewed as a boost for President Tinubu’s political standing in the north, particularly in Daura, the hometown of late President Buhari, a region of significant political influence.
