Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has issued a grave warning about the future of Nigeria, stating that the country could face total collapse if the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is re-elected in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

El-Rufai made this bold statement during a grassroots mobilisation event held in Sokoto State for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he spoke to a large crowd of party supporters, civic leaders, and local stakeholders.

The former governor criticized the current APC administration for what he described as its “incompetent, self-serving and dangerous” leadership, emphasizing that the country’s survival is now at stake. According to him, the ruling party has lost direction and moral credibility, and its continued governance beyond 2027 would be disastrous for Nigeria’s future.

“We may not have a country if the APC continues beyond 2027,” he warned. “This is not about politics anymore. This is a fight for our lives, for our future, and for generations yet unborn.”

El-Rufai, once a founding member and staunch defender of the APC, officially exited the party in March 2025 after his ministerial nomination was rejected by the national assembly over alleged security concerns and classified intelligence reports.

Following his departure, he joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), hoping to continue his political journey. However, his time with the SDP was cut short after he was expelled and handed a 30-year ban by the party leadership due to alleged document forgery linked to internal party documents submitted during his membership registration.

After this setback, el-Rufai aligned himself with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he is now playing an active and strategic role in building a national coalition to unseat the APC-led government. He has been traveling across different states to rally support, particularly among the youth and civil society groups, presenting the ADC as a credible and reform-driven alternative.

Political analysts have described el-Rufai’s recent comments as one of the strongest attacks yet from a former APC insider. His defection and subsequent outcry could mark a turning point in the 2027 electoral build-up, especially if other influential political figures follow suit.

As tensions rise ahead of the 2027 elections, el-Rufai’s warnings have reignited public discourse around governance, accountability, and the true direction of Nigeria under continued APC leadership.
