Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger accused of assaulting a flight attendant on August 10, 2025, has been freed by a court after the police withdrew all charges against her.
A Lagos court struck out the five-count charge following the emergence of new evidence and the formal withdrawal of the case by the police.
The Federal Government backed the decision, noting Emmanson’s show of remorse and consultations with aviation authorities as factors in reaching the resolution.
The Airline Operators of Nigeria has also lifted the lifetime flying ban earlier placed on her, allowing her to resume air travel.
Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, confirmed she would be released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre within the week, stressing that the case was dropped due to her remorse and the airline’s decision to withdraw its complaint.
Meanwhile, human rights groups have criticised the treatment Emmanson received during the incident, particularly the release of private footage.
