Talent manager Ubi Franklin has addressed rumours linking him to the theft of a luxury wristwatch from popular jeweler Benny the Jeweler, insisting the allegations are false and misleading.
The controversy began after claims surfaced online that Ubi had stolen a watch from Benny. In his detailed statement, Ubi explained that while in Miami for a friend’s wedding, Benny offered to sell him a wristwatch. After checking its previous ownership, he declined the purchase to avoid any potential issues.
However, during the wedding service, Benny’s brother delivered another watch to him — one he agreed to buy and paid for in full. Due to the busy nature of the event, Ubi ended up with both watches in his possession. He said it wasn’t until Benny contacted him while he was airborne that he realized he still had the first watch.
“I am not a thief. I have never stolen from anyone in my life. I purchased a wristwatch and paid in full from Benny,” Ubi stated, adding that Benny had already debunked the theft rumours earlier in the day.
He also noted that the matter arose during a difficult period as he was preparing for his sister’s funeral. Davido later weighed in, saying Ubi owed no one an explanation.
“I appreciate the calls and messages. This is my final word on this,” Ubi concluded.
