Renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter Tiwa Savage has shared new insights about her personal life, particularly her shifting approach to romantic relationships. The multi-award-winning artist made headlines after stating that she no longer wants to date men who earn less than she does.
During an engaging conversation with British media personality Zeze Mills, the Afrobeat queen got candid about her relationship history. She admitted that in the past, she often settled for partners who were financially less successful than she was, simply because she believed in love over material wealth.
“I used to make mistake dating down, saying I don’t care if you’re not making money, it’s just love,” she confessed, describing how her romantic choices were once driven by emotional connection rather than financial compatibility.
Now, however, Tiwa Savage says she’s changing course. She expressed a strong desire to prioritize financial security in her next relationship. For the artist, who has worked hard to build her career and brand, wealth has now become a non-negotiable factor when choosing a partner.
“But now, I think I need someone that just has money. I think I’m at that point now. Love is really nice but you can judge me for wanting a wealthier person if you want,” she remarked unapologetically.
Tiwa further explained that after years of trying to make relationships work with men who didn’t match her financially, she’s ready for a different experience. She acknowledged that her previous approach may not have yielded the results she hoped for, and it’s time to explore a new path.
“I want to try that [dating someone who’s wealthier]. I have tried the other way for so many years. Let me try what it’s like dating a wealthy man,” she concluded, leaving no doubt that her romantic standards have evolved.
