The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has condemned the actions of Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, describing his recent airport conduct as a serious breach that could be regarded as terrorism in many parts of the world.
Mike Achimugu, NCAA’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, made the remarks during an interview on Arise TV.
He said passengers must always comply with instructions from airport officials and maintain respect for aviation protocols.
“Your first responsibility at the airport is respect and obey instructions from the officials on ground. The passenger (KWAM 1) has not done that,” Achimugu stated.
“What he did in most climes is considered terrorism. You cannot stop an aircraft from taking off. There is nothing that excuses it,” he added.
The NCAA official revealed that an investigation is underway to determine how the musician gained access to the restricted area where the incident occurred. He noted that all individuals found responsible will face appropriate sanctions.
He also explained that the probe will involve cooperation among key aviation bodies, including the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Aviation Security Service (AVSEC), and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
“Did the air traffic control clear the pilot to fly seeing that it was not safe for her to proceed? All of these questions will be answered during the course of the investigation,” Achimugu said.
On August 7, the NCAA petitioned the attorney-general of the federation and the inspector-general of police, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter involving KWAM 1 and ValueJet airline.
According to the authority, during a scheduled ValueJet flight VK201, the Fuji star allegedly engaged in actions that breached Nigerian civil aviation regulations.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, Wasiu Ayinde has been placed on a no-fly list.
NCAA sources say the agency’s immediate priorities are to establish a clear timeline of events, review CCTV and access-control logs, and interview staff and crew present at the scene.
